WHO DO, WHO DO, WHO DO YOU LOVE?

"Who do, Who do, ...Who do you love?" is the next question after "Who, Who, ...Who are you?" It's amazing to me that people, especially people in Washington, who are essentially made the same way can in their beliefs, values, agendas and customs summon such hatred for those who oppose them as is currently so popular. In the midst of all the rancor, peoples sensitivities are at their highest. The all or none mentality suggests peril and doom. The making of an enemies list is essential. It's a go for the throat approach that is justified by rightness. The shock of the extreme is now the normal. A blame game that has no rules and makes no sense. Bold lying and misrepresentation is not even deterred by the facts. Propaganda and misinformation are the main tactics. When they have no way out they either deny they said it or double down because it's truer than anyone can see.

The media looks like they're doing something. They certainly do talk a lot. And apparently, they no longer need to be fair or to not verbalize their prejudices or to ask the hard questions or to confront the wrong doing or to show the contradictions to any real degree. It's as if they operate between predetermined boundaries. And if they don't, they'll not get any face time with the politicians. I don't see the point. But apparently who you love and who you are makes all the difference.

THE HEADLINES

I trust that we don't become a Fox News and MSNBC nation, a people divided by where they get extreme news content. If at all, I think it should be between The Hallmark Channel and the Food Channel. A marked divide between romantic idealism and what you watch because nothing as interesting is on would truly benefit the nation. Fortunately, we will always be able to get good news coverage from Univision and Aljazeera.

OH, THE HUMANITY!

I missed my wedding anniversary this year. But that was only three out of forty five. So not so bad ...I think. No, we didn't expect to get this far. At the last, what saved it for us was living in two different places that are two hours apart. Had we only known earlier. Our book on successful marriage will be coming out in the Spring. But even with all of this manufactured harmony, neither of us can imagine making it to our Golden Anniversary. But if we do, I promised to show up for the celebration ...unless I forget of course.

NOW, THIS IS ART!

Right now on the L.A. Theater Works Radio Series, there are two plays by Paula Vogel, How I learned to Drive and The Baltimore Waltz. The first is about being molested by her uncle and the second is about her brother dying of aids. Obviously, these wouldn't be for everyone. What impressed me was the way she handled telling about two difficult situations. I couldn't just listen.

WHY? WHY? WHY?

Well, Well, Well. The Denver Broncos are in the Super Bowl this year. Some are trying to credit it to legalizing marijuana, but I think that's premature. Maybe if we do the same next year. But if we don't make it in again, there's a chance that not that many people are going to care. I thought of raising some marijuana on the few acres I have but by the size of the demand, it would take at least a half section to be a viable supplier. Then there's another problem, and it surprises me. Apparently the only problem with growing marijuana out here on the prairie is keeping the neighbors out of it. Who knew?
